Guided Vespa™ scooter tours in Italy, France, Croatia and Spain

Owner & Manager: Brett Naisby started guiding luxury biking and walking tours in France in 1990 for “Butterfield & Robinson”. After two seasons, he returned to Canada to start working for the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs but a few years later he cut short his nascent career to return to Europe in 1994. This time he landed in Tuscany and fell in love with the beauty of the region, and has spent six months a year in the Chianti wine-growing region ever since. In 1996, Brett established active travel companies called "Customwalks" and "Mondo Bike tours", and in 2006 he started "Scooterbella" to offer Vespa tours in the area around his base in Gaiole in Chianti. Over the past 24 years, Brett's three travel companies have run hundreds of trips for thousands of people in dozens of locations throughout Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, Turkey, Algeria, Greece, Slovenia, New Zealand and most recently the Republic of Georgia. Brett oversees all aspects of Scooterbella in a very hands-on way. He continues to research and develop new tours as well as guide several departures a year.  He divides his time between homes in Tuscany and New Zealand, where he cruises in style on his vintage Vespa PX 200. What makes us different?

1 Our guides

Our mix of North American and European managers and guides allows us to both understand what our clientele want and expect in terms of service while providing them with a trip that benefits from our intimate local knowledge.

Unlike many other companies, our managers and guides live in the areas where we run our trips.

Although we are a small company, we have been enjoying our work since 1996.
2 Experience

Our guides are dedicated to creating both a fabulously fun and educational travel experience. Our guides are quite simply accomplished individuals.

Many have multiple degrees and our ranks include former university professors, business consultants, successful artists (mosaicists, painters, and ceramicists), actors, translators and interpreters, authors, bike racers, and a master sommelier.

The guides are there to look after you, entertain you, inform you and generally enrich your travel experience. They add a lot of value to the tour.
3 Our History

Since 1996 we have overcome currency fluctuations, two Gulf Wars, 9/11, pandemics (S.A.R.S., Bird Flu, Swine Flu),  Volcanoes (Eyjafjallajokull’s 2010 eruption), Earthquakes (Christchurch 2011), the Global Economic Downturn AND the dreadful Berlusconi! We are not just an owner-operator operation that seizes up when the owner sprains an ankle. Nor are we a large travel company with huge overheads to cover. We like to keep it simple. There are four full-time employees at Customwalks in addition to our guides. Our livelihood is dependent on the success of our tours and the repeat business of our customers. When you call our toll free line it gets forwarded to us in Italy. We are here, on the ground, doing what we enjoy and do best; creating unforgettable travel experiences.

Meet our Trip Leaders

He personally developed the Scooterbella tours in Tuscany, Puglia, Provence and Croatia and he regularly guides our Tuscany Vespa tour where his 25 years worth of local knowledge is put to good use. His home base during the Italian summer is a 300 year old renovated stone barn in Chianti and when the days get short he returns to Christchurch,  New Zealand to enjoy the southern hemisphere’s summer.  Languages: Canadian-eh, Italian and French.

Sara

Sara

Sara is 100% Tuscan and lives in Arezzo. She has a passion for travel and meeting new people. Sara is deeply devoted to her home town of Arezzo and she is a licensed city guide for the historic city and its province. Sara started guiding our Tuscany Vespa tour in 2012 and since then she has expanded her scootering horizons to guide in Provence, Puglia, and Andalucia. Indeed, Andalucia is close to her heart as she studied in Seville while in university and it was her love of the region to convinced us to develop a scooter tour there. Besides travel, her other great passion is Samba!  Languages: Italian, English, Spanish.

Marco

Marco

Marco is originally from Florence but now lives in the verdant hills above Lucca. His love of travel has taken him on hiking adventures all over the world, from the Sahara to the Amazon and Nepal. A man of many skills, he has worked in the fashion industry in Florence, as a chef on a super-yacht in the Mediterranean, and as an artist and mosaicist from his home studio. Marco is a fervent supporter of La Fiorentina, the Florence football club, and the Rolling Stones. He guides our walking tours in the Cinque Terre, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast and Sardinia, as well as our Vespa tours. Languages: Italian, English, and Spanish.

Claire

Claire

Claire has a PhD in French and Comparative Literature but happily abandoned academia years ago to become a guide. Her zest for life and wanderlust have taken her all over the world, from Albania to Zanzibar, and she now works closely with Brett to oversee the research and development of our tours. Claire is fluent in French and Italian, and can order wine in another 15 languages. She lives in Tuscany when she is not guiding our tours in Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, Greece, Slovenia and Turkey.

Jacopo

Jacopo

Jacopo was born in Florence and grew up in the Tuscan countryside. He is a qualified architect but his love of nature and the outdoors led him to the vocation of adventure sport guide. He is a keen kayaker, equestrian, hiker, and biker. He also had a semi-professional career as a theatre actor. His interest in sustainable living and an ecological lifestyle finds expression in his olive grove, which he tends year-round to produce his own organic olive oil. Jacopo leads our Tuscany Walk and Tuscany Vespa tours in his home region of Italy.

Rachele

Rachele

Rachele is “Comasca,” which means she was born and still lives in the beautiful lakeside town of Como, in northern Italy. At the young age of 16 she went to Australia and lived with a family while she attended high school. She returned to Italy and studied management, tourism, and languages at university in Milan. Rachele has lived in Spain and Greece, travelled extensively throughout Europe as well as in Central America and India, but has always returned to her hometown of Como. She recently qualified as a licensed trekking guide in Italy and she guides our Cinque Terre and Lake Como walking tours as well as some of our scooter tours (she's a pro at getting around Como by Vespa!). When she is not on tour she helps her mother run a shop in the centre of Como, and every year she relaxes on the Greek island of Folegandros where her family has a house. Languages: Italian, English, Spanish plus a little German, Russian and Greek.
